Borgata Wrap-up

May 7th, 2008

CHECK OUT THE FINAL LIST OF PAYOUTS

Well its over folks, and the reporting is complete.  We had a real tough final table with some well known players and some who are on their way to being well known players.

Larry “gold” Goldstein played extremely well working his way back from being super short on Monday night to making a huge comeback to the final table with the second largest stack at 3.9 million.  Who knows what happens if his AA holds up against the Huge stack of Mark Reynolds when they get it in, while Mark was holding QQ.  John Racener’s day may have been different if his filled straight on the river wasn’t doomed by Weiwen’s Full House.  Weiwen doubled through John on that hand and it took more than half his stack.

Alan “BodogAri” Engel scored his largest tourny win to date and played exceptionally well.  On Monday night, he was another short stack.  I made the comment after about three double ups how I couldn’t believe how anyone would challenge him without anything less than the nuts a he was in absolute sit back mode waiting for monster hands, and getting them.  He played a very patient final table and was never really short at any point.  Mark Reynolds was rushing like nothing I’ve seen before catching one and two and three outers to put guys out hand after hand.  Thats not an indication of poor play either.  With his chip stack it was absolutely correct to be playing his hands against the hort opponents.  He just had good timing and a sick run of turns and rivers.

The staff at the Borgata made everything easy for us to be able to bring you the coverage.  Helping us with technical issues on the spot, runners to help to gather info, and complete access to the whole room in order to bring you the best available updates at all times.

Many thanks to all who participated with the interviews, coming on air live to help, and to those who offered getting help on background info on some of the players.

Look back for a schedule of our next coverage of live and online events coming soon!

FINAL DAY COVERAGE BEGINS!!

May 6th, 2008

New pictures up in the photo album.

11:40 - I have the complete list of winners and will link as soon as possible. What a tourny!  The staff at the Borgata really should be commended on their professionalism and regard for the players.  Check back in the morning for the link and a recap

9:45 - The tourny is OVER!  1st place - Schuyler Twaddle  2cnd Place - Weiwen Liang  3rd place - Alan “BodogAri” Engel  4th place - Mark Reynolds…  We broadcasted over the show the whole final 4 and I haven’t had time to go over the hand histories…  I will do so later in the night!  Congrats to our final 4!

8:14 - Back from break and the action is dead..  One raise and everyone folds around every single hand.  4 handed and this is a very passive table…  blinds are at 100/200k and there are 45 minutes left in the level

6:50 - Racener in the small blind shoves all in with AQ and Reynolds calls after limping from the button with KT.  The flop brings and Ace, the turn comes a Q and the River fills broadway with a J and Reynolds hits another 3 outer to end Johns Day.  They are down to 4 and at dinner break.  Reynolds is feeling it and said he obv wouldn’t play hands the way he has without the monstrous stack he has.  Obv he has every right to make the calls he has been making to the short stack pushes, but has just ran really well.

6:43 - John Racener is in the BB with just over 800k left…  Weiwen raises in the cutoff and Racener thinks and fold

6:39 - Weiwen continues his upward movement against Mark Reynolds raising preflop, and getting called by the chip leader.  Then raising pot on the flop and Reynold folding both times.  Weiwen is now near 6mil in chips and cruising…

6:30 - SIIIIICK!!!!  Mark Reynolds gets into a hand with 88 against Mihail Stoykov.  They see a flop of Ten high, and Mihail shoves his last 1.4 mil…  Reynolds calls and opens up his Eights.  Mihail shows QT for top pair, and the turn blanks, but the river goes BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! with an 8 and Mihail goes out in 6th earning $73,625

6:16 - Eric Seigel is OUT, when he shoves $1.4mm pre with JJ and  Alan “BodogAri” Engel calls with the JackACE!!!…  Ace on the turn and no love for Eric as he is sent off the table…  Down to 6 with 39 minutes left in the level… We will try to get Eric on the show for a live interview shortly

6:08 - 80k/160k blinds wwith 20k antes and everyone is in fold mode…

5:58 -  play continues

5:33 - Mihail Stoykov goes all in and Eric Seigel tanks for a good 3 minutes.  He eventually folds and the table asks the directors to pause the blind clock

5:25 - Richard Marshall goes out when he open shoves K9 with a very short stack, and Mark Reynolds reshoves with AA.  AA is good and Rick goes to the rail in 8th for a cash of $42,625

5:18 - Wiewen doubles up when he checks his turned boat of J’s over 7’s giving Racener a free look at the river which actually filled his straight.  Racener bets half of Weiwens stack and Weiwen shoves the rest.  Racener calls and loses a 3.5 million dollar pot

5:04 - Another suck out when John Racener’s AT fills on the river a wheel against Rick Marshalls QQ who I believe checked the river.  Over a million dollar pot and we are rolling

5:00 - OMG!!!  Mark Reynolds and Larry Goldstein get it all in preflop after 4 bets…  The two largest stacks in the tourney…  Gold opens up AA and Reynolds has QQ…  Q hits the flop and Gold is sent reeling to the rail.  Reynolds now has a commanding chip lead of over 8.5 million…

4:51 - Final table play and we are down to 9.  SloppyKlod (Chris Klodnicki) went out when his KT shove was called by Larry Goldtein with QQ…  King hit the flop on an all heart flop, and the turned heart gives Gold the Q high flush sending Klod to the rail.  He earns $20, 150 for his 10th place finish.  Chip stacks at the final table go - 2.5mil for Weiwen Liang  3.3mil for Alan Engel, 1.8mil for Richard Marshall, 4.9mil for Mark Reynolds, 2.6mil for John Racener, 1.8mil for Schuyler Twaddy, 1.6mil for Mihail Stoykov, 1.7mil for Eric Seigel, and 3.5 mil for Larry Goldstein

3:24 - Livepokerradio is on live now!  GO listen up for up to the minute updates

3:15 - New level is 10k antes, 50/100k blinds..  no break and they run right through the next level.  Stoykov doubled when he shoved his J5 suited and caught two pair.  (live poker i soo rigged).  He is just under 1 mil and the table play continues

2:54 - chip counts for the final table:  Weiwan Lang has 600k, Alan Engel has 4.3mil, Rich Marshall has 1.6mil, Mark Reynolds has 4.7mil, Christopher (sloppyKLOD) Klodnick has 1.5mil, John Racener has 3.5mil, Schuyler Twaddle sits with 2.2, Mihail Stoykov sits with 350k, Eric Seigel holds 2.4mil, and Larry Gold holds 1.9mil

2:46 - Down to the final table!  Tony Behbahani goes busto when Larry Gold catches his K on the turn to Tony’s 44 putting him on the final table bubble.  Jorge Rivera is 12th when he fails to catch his straight against John Racener

2:21 - Action is flying and we are down to 12…  Blinds are now 40/80k with 5k antes.  In 13th place Jin “leo” Chung is out when his AT goes Aces up on the River but gives John Racener broadway with AK…  Sahu Habibi goes out short in 14th when he shoved his 44 into Mark Reynolds JJ and he goes home.  15th place is Hamid Michael Halamari when he loses a race to Tony Behbahani…  More pictures up and I will have them tagged shortly as well…

2:11 - Back from break and the action is strong with lots of moves from short stacks.  The average stack is 1.7 million

2:05 - Harry Frankel goes out in 16th place when he recklessly shoves T high into Alan Engel aka BodogAri, who holds a pocket pair and ends Frankels run… Players are on a 15 minute break, and we will have up to date action a it comes

1:40 - Thomas Ditta is out when his A T falls to Mark Reynolds AK… Reynolds adds another 600k to his stack and is rolling along… Another big development is when Larry Goldstein gets it all in against Harry Frankel with TT to Frankels 99… TT holds and Larry doubles to 2.1 mil. Gold told me that his last three largest tournaments he has played he has always been eliminated in 16th place. With 16 players remaining he is confident that he can break that trend today

1:10 - Matt Milliken is OUT. He pushed his last 500k when Jorge Rivera open shoved for 300k and Harry Frankel called aking a three way pot. Matt went in with the best of it with AT, Jorge had QT, and Frankel had KQ. The board gave a K high straight giving both Jorge and Harry the chop. Matt is out in 19 place and play continues with Mark Reynolds holding the chip lead

12:58 - Andrew Yasparro is our first casualty when his pocket pair of 88 loses a race to Jin “leo” Chung when he called his all in preflop bet of AK… Shortly after Larry “GOLD” Goldstein finishes Junayad Khan when his AK turns broadway to Junayads J7 and a pair of Jacks on the flop. Larry is sitting on over a million in chips. Another big development is Matt Milliken losing a 3 million dollar pot to Mark Reynolds when his AQ is bested by Marks AK when the A hit the flop… The tables have condensed to two and the action continues. I will have a chip update shortly

Click here for the start of the day chips counts.

We apologize for the delay but we are having some technical difficulties.

$500k Guarantee, DAY TWO

CLICK HERE TO SEE PICTURES OF OUR COVERAGE FROM THE BORGATA POKER ROOM

2:30am - down to 21 and they have stopped play for the night. They will redraw in the morning and start play at Noon Easter. Keep checking back tomorrow for updates as I will continue to live blog. The chip leader, Matthew Millikan is sitting on 3.7 million, and Tony Behbahania in second with 2.8 million. I will start the live blog around 11am with thoughts from some of the players and get updating when the tourney starts.

1:10 - 26 players left and I think they are going to play til 25. I’ll have an update when they make the decision

12:52 - We are down to 28 players and 45 minutes to the end of the level. Players are getting salty being so late and not knowing what they

12:12 - Joeph Kakoun goes out in 34th place. Why is that significant? Joseph had a nice chip stack earlier this afternoon and started bleeding making some loose calls. As they got towards, and through the bubble, some more questionable calls chipped him back up nicely when his A rag always seemed to have hit an A. However, the players at the table did not seem to take it to kindly as he always had a retort to their quetionable glances, and comments. The hand before he went out, he raised all in to one of the younger players who folded, and mucked his cards in his direction. Joe made a comment about never doing that again or the next time he would throw chips at him. I asked why it was a big idea, and the player, Schuyler Twaddle told me the story, and while he was joseph said, “it wasn’t the first time”. Larry Gold stated that it was Schuylers first hand at the table and everyone laughed… Joe didn’t like, and sort of semi-tilted. His next hand he was gone. We’re now down to 33 players

11:39 - back from break in a minute and here are the chip leaders with 38 left… Aaron Duguay has 2.3mm in chips, Harry Frankel has 1.5 in chips, and Matt Milliken has 1.3mm in chips… Wayne Temple lost a huge hand when a King hit the flop and he was holding AK. The board also contained two diamonds, and a Q when Aaron Duguay held QJ of diamonds. The turn brought the diamond for Aaron and he couldnt get anymore that 500k out of Wayne. Wayne is left at about 425,000 in chips but still feeling confident

11:13 - Eric Siegel has about 600k in chips and is in good position to make a move. Said he is feeling great and running pretty decent at a table where things seem to be tightening up, giving him an advantage. Also, on a personal note, wanted to tell his kids good night!

9:40 - down to 58 and the action is tightening up. We have some good live interviews going on the radio right now, and you should be listening… :)

9:00 - Bubble has broke and we are already down to 66. I”m running around the room and most of the info you are going to get now will be broadcasted on the air. I will update here as often as possible

7:33 - We’re live on the radio right now - buckle up and listen in

7:13 - Back from dinner and play resumes… down to 91 average stack is 255k and now they are thinking that they will be lucky to get down to 27 tongiht

6:57 - Tonight, the WPT broadcasts the Borgata open from last Spetember. Check it out

6:51 - 15 minutes before we are back from dinner and the field is down to 94. Just about 20 to the money and the consensus from the tounrey staff is that they will play down to 10

6:15 - Mass Pro Todd Rebello is out as well after grinding for two days. Twice losing 2/3’s of his stack to sick beats. I have a live interview with him that might be up shortly. The Tourny is on dinner break and will be heading to level 18 when they get back. I’ll have chip counts, players left, and tourney leader when they get back

5:45 - John Parvin is out when he shoved bottom pair, and was called by an underpair. The under pair setted up on the river and the Maine Monster is out

5:38 - Very Stupid hand I just witnessed… KK v Q T.. i wont explain it in detail but Q T has a stack of 800k KK has 120k KK raises pre and big stack calls. no betting on a K high flop. Turn it gets all in when the Big stacks raises to 20 and KK goes all in for another 89k or so. He says he’s live to a J. (good lord!) Kings hold. Joe simmons is chipping up ever so slowly but still short.

5:14 - Joe Simmons is sitting in seat 4 at the same table as Danneman and they are both being avoided like the plague when they try to steal a pot. Not much left in either of their stack to really do anything other than shove a flop if they want to play.

5:02 - More movement with the field being down to 105 players and the room is condensing nicely.

4:29 - Table 4 AA v JJ for a pot of about 400k. A flops and the board comes 4 SPADES!!! unfortunately JJ didn’t have a spade, so no suckout for him :)

4:18 - Davidson Matthews is out when his top pair on the flop is called by an OESD and the turn fills him up.

4:07 - Cheryl Hines is out, Danneman is survinging but can’t get any action to make any progress, and the big stacks, unbelievably are still going at it with each other. Tensions are running high as people are getting testy trying to make moves and getting action with less than premium hands. One comment was made by a guy wearing Poker Stars gear that his opponent must be a Full Tilt player. The guy said no, and that he plays exclusively on Stars, and the big stack at the table said that HE plays FT exclusively, taking a little dig at the “Stars ‘Tard”, as he so aptly called him :)

3:46 - down to 150 getting back on break and the action continues. Just conducted an interview with John “MaineMonster” Parvin who is doing well. Players are starting to position themselves to chip up or go home with lots of moves happening.

3:28 - Davison Matthews takes a huge hit (twice!) when his AK gets smacked against A9 when two 9’s hit the flop, then on the next hand when He shoved pre with AK again against Wayne Temples who held TT. Davison tried to tell him that he had Aces, but Wayne wasn’t buying it and called off and stood tall. Davison is down to 100k and is in desparation mode.

3:18- I can’t keep up with the sickness!! Table 3 again.. Franco Dipetro shoves on a flop with bottom pair and A kicker. He is called by a guy with top 2 and Franco runners broadway to take a pot of 250k. On another table, guy has QJ v K5 clubs. Flop comes Q 7 5, two clubs. betting ensues, with a call, turn comes a blank. QJ shove for about 300k… K 5 snap calls stating he has 15 outs. King hits the river and QJ goes ballistic. Screaming OMG!, and HOW THE FUCK DO YOU CALL?!?!?… I laugh louder than when my brother walked into a glass door not realizing it was a door. Down to about 160 players, with an average now of about 90k

3:10 - Table 5 action AQ calls an all in for about 65k on a flop of Q 2 4…. the opponent shows bottom set with ducks and takes the pot of about 130K

2:50 - Table 3 with the largest action of the day, and a huge move for Wayne Temples. He standard raise from utg+1 and the lone action in the cutoff raise about 2x’ pot. Wayne goes all in for 140k more creating about a 450k pot. His opponent tanks and eventually calls with KK. Aces stand tall and Wayne takes a huge chip lead for the tourny

2:37 - Roy Winston is out of the tourney after he flopped a K holding KJ. His opponent literally held his nose as he made the call with QQ, and spike a river Q to send Roy home

2:28 - The guy who won the big hand on table 3 is Spiro Mitokostas, better known as “lucky55″. He plays on stars, and loves the hand 55, which I quickly directed him to the branding of that hand as Presto, as it was defined by Fuel

2:17 - HUGE hand on table 3… 8 seat raises 3x and bb shoves 89k 8 seat calls (having him covered by about 40k) with AK. BB opens up QQ and K hits the turn sending him home. Total pot of 182k gets shipped to 8 seat who now has a top 5 stack..

1:49 - Things are happening fast now and suckouts are a plenty. I will have interviews with some of the offenders and some of the victims shortly. I also have more pictures of players coming to add to the phot journal

1:03 - they have moved the Tournament up towards the back right section of the poker room. We are being located right in the middle of things so I will be able to get some really good hand histories and bring you the action as it happens.

12:52 - Just added more photos from within the Borgata Poker room to the photo album. Go check them out. I love this poker room. Its a very clean poker room, and the staff is the best. You’re never left wanting anything (accept better cards maybe), and the room is monstrous. Play is moving along nicely and we are down to just about 30 tables

12:07p - Action here on table 43 when utg goes all-in with his last 26k. folds to the sb who calls by placing her chips in the middle and expoing her cards of QsJs. The dealer then mucks her hand, and everyone has a blow up. They call floor, she comes over and says the rule is, if a dealer mucks, its a fold. Houe rules. More people blow up, with one guy at the table who wasnt in the hand, stating that her cards were exposed. We all saw them. If this is a mucked hand, I ‘m turning this table over. Some words exchange back and forth with the floor girl (LOVE JERSEY GIRL ATTITUDE), who tells him that he needs to calm down and does not want to be bringing this “noise” to her, not in her mood!. They get Tab, the house director, who i the bomb diggety btw… best TD in my experience in the country, who brings over David, another floor person, who takes the info, asks if everyone saw the QJ, they say yes, and of course, Run the cards. No more action obv, because he is all in, and the dealer runs the cards…

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Q Q x x x and Mr. AA goes home. Funny it took so long for the reult to be disputed and resolved, and when it finally does, the worst wins. SIck sick sick

Start of Day 2 Chip counts

11:42a - Walking around the room, there is not too much going on with the exception of the action on table 26… Three consecutive hands, and the same player has gotten his money in way bad, only to hit his 1-3 outer on the River, doubling up each tie. AND, another player, just now hit his 3 outer on the river when his K 4 went in bad on a K high flop against his opponent’s KQ. 4 falls on the river and we have 4 consecutive river beats at the same table. WHAT A WAY TO START YOUR DAY!!! :)

Good mornging and get ready for a hell of a day. Speaking with some of the players last night, it seemed to be the consensus that most were just trying to survive day one. Play was rather passive with the chip lead getting to 230k, and the average stack at $71 towards the end of the day.

This morning the play has been going on for 10 minutes, and I have already witnessed 3 players blowing up and storming out from what apparently are bad beats. I have the list of all the chip counts as they start today. I will have a link up shortly.

I will also be taking tons of pictures and will be posting them in the photo album.

LIVE BLOGGING THE BORGATA $500k Guarantee

May 4th, 2008

11:35pm - It has been a really good day here at the Borg. What started out as 775 players creating a $1.55mm prize pool, for what was supposed to be a $500k guarantee has players and spectators alike in a frenzy. As I speak to several players, the real value here is what can come of a huge tournament score like this would be. Most have intimated being in a position to head to the World Series and playing multiple events, comfortably, and moving forward in their poker careers.

Some details at the end of the day:

350 players left (give or take a few), Average stack of 61k. Notables still in, Steve Danneman, Roy Winston, Borgata house pro Davison Matthews, and actress Cheryl Hines.

I will be live blogging all day tomorrow starting at 11am all the way through the day. I will update a well when we expect to get on air live to give updates, and more interviews. One thing that has been mentioned to me over and over by the players has been the disappointment amongst the masses as to how some players handled the registration process. Borgata officials here really did a spectacular job considering the turn out that could not possibly have been prepared for. There were some ramblings of the Poker room being ill-prepared, but squashed by the consensus of players as being ridiculous. When the Casino put together the largest guarantee EVER in Atlantic City, they determined, through their research, that $500k was the number. Meaning at $2000 buyin, that 250 players would be right around where they would get. Instead, more than 800 showed up, and they handled 775 of them. Some players caused a ruckus when they found out that they would not be allowed to play. Of course it could be construed as a little bitching to get what they want, but it went beyond that with some, and I want to make clear that the staff at the Borg handled it with complete professionalism, and class. Unlike the Asshats that couldn’t get in.

Tomorrow starts day two and I look forward to a very exciting and fun day of reporting the beats, the bluffs, and the Nuts!

8:21 - Picture Album is up with more to come soon!

Class Act

8:14 - Level 9 starting up… average stack still around 50k, with not that many out. Players are getting frustrated not knowing who stand where or not being able to get chip counts. The tournament is to end at level 11 today and folks are wondering how long tomorrow will be with more than 200 more players showing up than expected

7:00 - Dinner break is over and the play is resuming, average stack is 45k

6:00 - DInner Break. down to just under 600 players and I still can’t get confirmation of a chip leader and what the stack may look like. I do have Prize payouts however. The top 72 earn with first place getting $395,095!

5:42 - Live Poker Radio will be back on air live starting again at 7:30EST with an interview with Allen Cunningham.

5:29 - Level 7 is half way through and we are down to an official 602 players left out of a starting 775. All tables are no more than 10 handed and we have some movers in the field. I will get the top 5 stacks in a bit

woah4:26 - OMG!!! Riggs!! Cheryl Hines!!!!

4:17 - Ok slight mistake on my part… They are now only at level 6 right now. Dinner starts AFTER level 7 so two more levels before the break. Blinds right now are 200/400 with a $75 ante

3:59 - Level 7 is ending and players are getting ready to head to dinner break. Lucko is out when he was crippled in a 70k pot when he flopped the set, but his opponent flopped the straight. His last 4k went in with KQs, when two other players held AK and QQ. He didn’t improve and goes to the rail. LJ is still holding strong by getting back up to 23k…

3:28 - Blinds are now 300/600 as we come off of a 15 minute break. No one has really sperated themselves as we can’t seem to find the MONSTER chip leader.

3:01 - Looking around the floor, Table #5, seat 8 has amassed a chip stack of over $100k by winning 7 hands in a row. At least 4 of those hands went to showdown. I will try to get some details on this very sick rush

2:51 - Tourney is moving at a good pace now. Play seems to be settling in with average stacks playing to chip up without really leaving themelves at risk. I have seen several big starting hands played very passively winning the minimal or nothing at all

2:17 - They have just announced that they closed out at 775 players. There was speculation that they might have hit 800 but they closed out some people that had entered and locked it in at 775. Consider that this was a $500k guarantee, and that FIRST place alone will most likely be around the $400k mark. God bless good tournament structure. :) If you have an interest in a certain player, IM livepokerradio on yahoo, or post in the forums and we will try to get you an update

1:56 - 17m left in the third level and they still don’t have an official count of entrants. They are working on it now, and I should have a definitive count of total entrants and how many are actually out. First place is guaranteed at least $300k. Plenty of bad beats to recount, bad bluffs, and sick coolers.

1:26 - First break has ended, and the play is back. Liverpokerradio is on break for the next hour and 40 or so and will be backk with interviews, updates, and more

12:58 - Mike Shasho, a player who we interviewed on the show, is out when he flopped the nut Boat when he held pocket Aces. 5 limpers to him at 100/200 blinds, when he is in the small with AA. He makes it 1200 to go and all 5 call. Flop comes A99. He bets pot (because he is a man!), and gets one caller. Turn comes a 2 and he checks. The lone caller makes it 12k. Mike shoves and the opponent opens up 99 for quads and ending his day. Sooooooooooooooooooo SICK!!!

12:23 - Alternate players are in the hall auctioning off their seats. Some are going for $400 and more. Lucko lost about $8k of his stack when he saw a flop of 9 9 8 with A 9. His opponent had 88. Still a good save conidering he ONLY lost 8k. Steve Danneman lost a huge part of his stack when his opponent hit two pair on the river.

11:56am - 737 is now the count with alternates being allowed in. I witnessed a hand at LJ’s table where the board was 7 2 2 J 4 , two hearts on the flop and being called on the turn, and folded on the river. The winner showwed 77, and I mentioned to LJ that I wished it was the hammer! BOOOOOOOOOOOM

11:33am - cards in the air… Steve Danneman is sitting at a table directly across from us. Adam Gerber (won this years USPC) is also playing

11:24 am - It has been announced that they have accepted 700 players… cards in the air shortly

11:10 est - Tournament has not started yet, and I have been unable to get a final count. There are a ton of people till trying to register but I believe the word is that they have closed registration. I will post when I geet a final count

Start of the Borgata is in 35 minutes….

SO far there are over 600 entrants doubling the Guarantee to a prize pool of over a million. The staff here at the borg is wheeling over the participation and are having to do tables 11 handed, and might even have to shut out more than 100 players… Of course the specifics are being handed down to me by various dealers and players so I will have exact stats in a bit

Keep checking back for more info as I live blog the whole tourney today
